Dr. Joan Hannula, M.D.
Hello! I’m Dr. Joan Hannula, M.D.
Although I am more interested in you, I have found that many patients are interested in my story as well.
As the ancient Chinese proverb says, a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. My journey into medicine began as a teenager, when I was fortunate to get a job as a “Vincenteen”, essentially a nurse’s aide at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in New York City, where I grew up.
I went on to graduate magna cum laude from Wagner College with a B.S in Nursing. My medical degree is from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine where I graduated at the top of my medical school class, and was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. A residency in Family Medicine at the University of Iowa followed. In my final year of residency, I was elected Chief Resident by my peers.
I am currently a board-certified Family Medicine Physician, and have been a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians for more than 25 years.
During my career in medicine, I have worked in a variety of health care settings, urgent care, emergency room, inpatient and outpatient care. In all of them my greatest joy has been the relationship I have with the people I have served. I truly want to ensure that everyone has access to affordable and high-quality primary care.
I look forward to giving of my time and the privilege of my education to the people of this community with the passion and determination that led me to a career in medicine. I would consider it an honor and a privilege for you to join our practice.
On a long and winding road I have found myself in Colby, Wisconsin where, in my downtime, I enjoy spending time with my awesome and supportive husband, Dan, our three dogs, our family, and a good book.
